New York State Police have reported another fatality at Hunter Mountain Ski Center. Zachary Thompson, 20, of Cream Ridge, New Jersey died after losing control and striking several trees on Racers Edge Trail, a double black diamond trail.

Thompson was taken down off the mountain and treated by local paramedics, but was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities think the fall was accidental and while an autopsy is scheduled, foul play is not a consideration at this time.

Just last month, Edwin Wood of Warwick was killed on the Annapurna trail. He also fell and slid some 200 feet before striking several trees. Both Thompson and Wood were considered expert skiers.

Hunter Mountain takes safety very seriously. There is no indication that either skier was outside the official trail, but the mountain strictly prohibits skiing beyond their clearly defined boundary. Always err on the side of caution, and know your limits while on the mountain.
