New System of a Down Album ‘Not Likely’ to ‘Happen Anytime Soon’
Malakian, who also founded the band Scars on Broadway, recently spoke with Los Angeles station KROQ about his abundance of new written material that he's keeping for himself. "I think my material usually works for both bands. So if System decides to make a record at some point, I think I'll have material for that. The thing is, I'm just not waiting anymore to see what's going on," he says.
When asked if the band's hesitance to begin working on a new album is a matter of different creative perspectives or just lack of desire to go on a tour cycle, Malakian said, "It might be a mix of both. People change as time goes on, tastes change....We just haven't come to agreement on how we would wanna do it if we did make a record. I never say never, but at this point, it's not likely that it's gonna happen anytime soon."
Scars on Broadway released Dictator in July 2018, but Malakian claims he already has enough written material to put out several more records. Listen to the full interview below.
