Deleted social media posts detailed the gathering, showing a bucket of iced Corona beers next to someone in a surgical mask at the University at Albany, WGY reports. The social media video was captioned, "Corona virus (SIC) isn't gonna stop anyone from partying."

The Asian American Alliance at the University at Albany condemned the party and wants an apology.

"As members of the Asian community on campus, your party is not funny and completely insensitive," the Asian American Alliance said on Instagram. "The real-life affects (SIC) of this virus has led to not only mass stereotyping of Asian people but also hundreds of deaths across the world."

College officials at the University of Albany are investigating, calling the party "distasteful and hurtful."

"We are aware of a coronavirus-themed party that was recently held off-campus and not sanctioned by the University at Albany. The theme of this party was distasteful and hurtful and is not representative of UAlbany or its nearly 18,000 students," the college said in a statement obtained by CNN.

Students may face disciplinary actions, officials say, even if the party wasn't on campus. As of Monday, the number of reported cases of the coronavirus reached over 80,000 with nearly 2,700 deaths.
