Why Does This Happen When You Order Out in New York?

It seems like an odd trend is happening in the Hudson Valley....

I have been noticing this a lot lately, I'm not complaining (before everyone calls me a Karen) I just really want to know when did it all get this.

I remember all the way back to being a kid when my parents would order something out to eat and at the end the person taking the order would tell them their total. This was if they ordered food, dinner, coffee or something else out. It was pretty routine and standard or so I thought...

When I first started to drive and was ordering things by myself I noticed the first few years that the person taking my order would always give me the total. Again, pretty normal and routine protocol. I'd say over the past two years that this has changed and again I really just want to know why.

What odd food trend has taken over the Hudson Valley?

I'll give you example, every now and then I treat myself to an iced coffee (I get all kinds of flavors and bad things in it) and after I ordered it, the window the person just kinda looked at me. I was waiting for the total and pretty much to be told what to do next...didn't get that at all I just kinda awkwardly sat there.

This happened at another spot when I ordered dinner out, I just kinda waited for the person to tell me the total...and she did not. I'll spare you more details, but this keeps happening multiple times to me.

Especially since we are in a world where everything is so expensive and every penny counts I'm confused why the total wouldn't be given immediately after the order. PSA NO ONE GIVE YOU THE TOTAL ANYMORE.
