Bringing Services Directly to Veterans

New York State has launched its first-ever Veterans Mobile Outreach Center, marking a significant advancement in how the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) supports Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families. The inaugural Mobile Outreach Center is currently stationed at The Great New York State Fair, offering immediate assistance to attendees.

Expanding Accessibility Across New York

This Mobile Outreach Center is part of a broader initiative to improve access to veterans' services throughout New York State. In the coming months, two additional Mobile Outreach Centers will be deployed to various special events and communities. These specially equipped vehicles will ensure that veterans and their families can receive the support they need, regardless of their location.

What Veterans Can Expect

The Mobile Outreach Centers are designed to provide essential services directly to veterans and their families. Inside these centers, individuals can meet with accredited Veterans Benefits Advisors to handle tasks such as filing claims, enrolling in VA healthcare, and accessing property tax exemptions. Additionally, the centers offer Fresh Connect Checks, which can be redeemed at farmers’ markets, among other services. This setup provides a convenient alternative to traditional office visits, making it easier for veterans to access necessary help.

Upcoming Engagements and Community Involvement

The Mobile Outreach Centers are already scheduled to participate in significant events, including the New York State RV Show in Syracuse and the Veterans Day Parade in New York City. Organizations or communities interested in hosting a Mobile Outreach Center at their event are encouraged to contact the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services at 1-888-838-7697 for scheduling.

A Commitment to Service

Viviana DeCohen, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services and a United States Marine Corps Veteran herself, underscores the importance of these centers. She states, "My daily vow is to find and serve. The Veterans Mobile Outreach Centers will provide a crucial point of contact and service for veterans across New York State."

This initiative reflects New York State's ongoing commitment to supporting its veterans, with over $200 million invested in veterans' benefits and services this fiscal year alone. For more information, veterans, service members, and military families can contact the Department at 888-838-7697 or visit their website. Follow DVS on social media for updates and announcements.

Oneonta Honors Veterans in 2021 Memorial Day Parade

Leading up to the Memorial Day Parade in 2021, Oneonta and area residents were so excited to once again be able to gather to honor local veterans that a larger than usual crowd turned out for the parade. There was a very hopeful energy in the air among not only the participants in the parade but from those watching along Oneonta's Main Street as well. It was wonderful to observe! Here are some highlights.
