Looking at Best States For Women in the US

When it comes to women, through they make up nearly 51% of the United States population, they are severely underrepresented in many other areas. While it is easy to zero in on the areas where women continue to struggle, it is more powerful to focus on where they are thriving, and understand the states deemed 'best' for women.

Coming in ONLY behind Massachusetts, Minnesota, and the District of Columbia, New York currently ranks 4th in the 2025 list of best states for women, this according to WalletHub. The top five on the list only had a differential of 4.5 points in total, making it a tight race.

New York Is a 'Women-Friendly' State

Several factors were considered when compiling the statistics for the best states for women, including health care and safety, economic and social well being,  and even a look at best states to be a working mom in.

With our overall ranking of 4th, New York came in 12th for median earnings for female workers, 11th for share of women-owned businesses, 10th for women's preventive health care, 9th for female uninsured rate and quality of women's hospitals and 4th for women's life expectancy at birth.

When compared to the three states that topped New York, Massachusetts did well because it has one of the lowest unemployment rates for women, Minnesota creates excellent economic opportunities for women, and DC has the highest median income for women.
