Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced the sentencing of 50-year-old Theodore Edwards of Newburgh for his conviction of a Class B Violent Felony; Sex Trafficking.

Edwards had been indicted by an Orange County Grand Jury on numerous charges stemming from allegations that between August of 2015 and March of 2016 the defendant unlawfully imprisoned four women at a residence on Broadway in Newburgh and subjected them to assaults and other physical abuse. 

All four women were forced to perform sex acts on Edwards, and three of the victims were also forced to have sex with other individuals. Edwards had posted an ad on the internet that offered the opportunity to have sex with the three women.

On Oct. 27, Edwards pleaded guilty to sex trafficking. He was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Nicholas De Rosa to a sentence of 12 years in NYS prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Orange County District Attorney Hoovler, speaking of the sentence, said, "the community will be safer during the time this defendant is incarcerated."

The charges originally lodged against Edwards:

  • Kidnapping in the 1st Degree
  • Criminal Sexual Acts in the 1st Degree (3 counts)
  • Rape in the 1st Degree (4 counts)
  • Sex Trafficking (12 counts)
  • Promoting Prostitution in the 2nd Degree (5 counts)
  • Coercion in the 1st Degree (4 counts)
  • Kidnapping in the 2nd Degree (2 counts)
  • Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree
  • Stalking in the 1st Degree
  • Assault in the 3rd Degree
  • Unlawful Imprisonment in the 2nd Degree
