I can still remember the first time I gathered my friends and said we were going to a night market. The main response was "What's a Night Market"? My reply was "you'll see and you will have fun". We went, we saw, and we had fun.

That was more than five years ago, and in between, there have been so many markets. I have made it to at least one a year, and I guess I am going to get a chance to go one more time in 2025 before the Night Markets end for good. Yes, that's correct, there will only be two more Moon Serpent and Bone Oddities and Curiosities Night Markets in 2025, and then they will be gone for good.

How Did Night Markets Get Started in the Hudson Valley

Back when the founder, Amy C. Wilson, set up the first Night Market in 2018, people came from all over to enjoy the alternative arts community and what it had to offer. These original night markets were the inspiration and stepping stone for so many other similar events that have grown in the Hudson Valley since the first market at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The Moon, Serpent and Bone Oddities Night Markets travel to various locations throughout the year. They offered market goers a chance to visit with unique vendors who offered items that were difficult to find in your run-of-the-mill enlightened shop. The markets had entertainers as well as food offerings, and often vendors traveled from out of town to be a part of the events.

Unfortunately, the popularity of these kinds of events is what led Amy to decide that there will only be two more Night Markets, one on October 3rd at Keepsake in Poughkeepsie, the other on December 12th, 2025. After that, anyone interested in these types of markets and the items they offer will have to head to the Moon Serpent & Bone Shop & Cafe in Beacon, New York.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
