The City of Newburgh’s Human Rights Commission is now accepting 2024 Human Rights Hero Award nominations.

This is your chance to recognize the everyday heroes who have made an outstanding impact on human rights in the community.

Whether speaking out against injustice, volunteering tirelessly, or advocating for equality, these individuals deserve to be celebrated.

Nominations are open until November 1, 2024, and can be submitted online at the City of Newburgh’s website.

The winners will be honored at the Human Rights Day Celebration on December 10, 2024, a global observance of the ongoing struggle for human rights.

The Human Rights Commission (HRC), established under the City Code, promotes mutual respect among all Newburgh racial, religious, and nationality groups.

The HRC, consisting of seven appointed members, works to identify and address conflicts within the community, referring cases of discrimination to the New York State Division of Human Rights.

While the commission cannot investigate or mediate cases, it fosters understanding and collaboration.
