A plastic bag ban went into effect in parts of the Hudson Valley recently.

If you've gone shopping in Dutchess County recently you've probably noticed that there are no plastic bags given out when you check out. A plastic bag ban went into effect in Dutchess County on January 1, 2020. People have been turning to reusable bags. Some people have also wanted to use their old plastic bags, but have been told they could not.

According to New York Upstate, stores in New York State must allow the reuse of old plastic bags. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) said that stores cannot prevent people from using a bag of any kind that they bring in to stores to put their purchased goods in.
