An Orange County man is accused of beating a store employee while trying to steal money.

On Monday, Port Jervis police arrested David Strobeck, 32, of Port Jervis for attempted robbery, a felony, and assault, a misdemeanor.

Strobeck is accused of entering a business on Front Street in the City of Port Jervis and assaulting a store employee while attempting to steal money from a cash drawer, police say.

He fled the scene after near-by store owners disrupted the robbery attempt, according to the Port Jervis Police Department. The store employee was taken to Bon Secour Community Hospital for treatment.

Strobeck was found by police about two hours after the alleged attempted robbery. He was arraigned in Port Jervis City Court and remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail pending evaluation by an Orange County Grand Jury.
