Near record-breaking cold weather brought snow to parts of the local area on Mother's Day.

On Sunday around 10 a.m, Hudson Valley Weather reported it was 40 degrees at its Ulster County Station with a mix of rain and sleet.

"Currently 40° with moderate rain mixed with sleet on May 12 at our station in Ulster County. #HappyMothersDay #HappySpring," Hudson Valley Weather wrote on Facebook.

A few hours later, Hudson Valley Weather reported wet snow was falling in the Catskills.

Followers from all over the local area commented confirming snow was falling near their homes. Snow was reported from a number locations including, Woodridge, Windham, Lake Katrine, Parksville, Haines Falls, Palenville, Prattsville and Gilboa. Sleet was reported in Saugerties.

According to Weather Underground, temperatures in Orange and Dutchess counties reached as low as 39 degrees on Sunday. The record low for May 12 was 31.

One consolation? It could have been worse. Maybe. On May 25, 1949, the temperature dropped below 32 degrees in Poughkeepsie which is the latest the temperature has ever dropped below freezing in Poughkeepsie, according to the National Weather Service.
