The Town of Poughkeepsie Police will be addressing a big problem that's been occurring in the Hudson Valley.

Aggressive driving has become a real problem around the Hudson Valley and in the state of New York. People have mentioned over the past few years how it's bad, but now we're are the point where aggressive driving it's REALLY BAD.

I can't even count how many times over the past year that I've had people honk, give the one finger salute, yell out the window, tailgate, make other rude gestures, speed up and slow down to be intimidating and more while I've been driving. Maybe I take it personally because I pay attention when I drive, try to be nice to others, don't text and don't go below the speed limit...so a little respect would be nice.

To be honest, seeing all of that behavior is really disgusting and I'm mortified for the people who think it's okay to behave like that in public. It's fair to say that It does not help the common stereotype about people in New York and that they are all miserable people who are abrasive and rude....how about we try to do better?

Not only is the behavior awful and ridiculous, but it's very dangerous to everyone on the road. Aggressive driving can lead to road rage incidents, accidents and create a very bad situation for everyone involved and other who are just trying to get to work or back home. It seems like it's just getting worse and worse and finally it seems like action is going to be taken with aggressive drivers.

What are the Town of Poughkeepsie Police going to do about aggressive driving in the Hudson Valley?

According to their Facebook Post, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police are going to be increasing traffic enforcement to deal with aggressive driving throughout the area. What exactly does that mean? Police Officers will be monitoring for violations which include speeding, unsafe lane changes, passing red lights, and other dangerous driving behavior. The post mentioned how the police want to enhance road safety and create a safer driving environment for everyone.

Thank you to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police for tackling this issue and for bringing it to attention of everyone.

How does the public feel about this police issue in the Hudson Valley?

The public response to the police trying to deal with aggressive driving has been pretty positive and embraced. Here are a few responses about the issue:

  • Justin- "Thank you for all you do! The roads have been terrible. Especially from the lights by the mall to the credit union. The amount of people blowing through the lights (usually southbound) at South Gate is insane. I am surprise there are not more accidents at the intersection."
  • Sandy- "Great idea…. Lots of crazies out there!"
  • Pat- "Thank you thats so great & they need to watch Titusville Rd between Rt 55 & Noxon rd,drivers think its a speedway."
  • Cindy- "Please patrol Crestwood and Lindbergh. I constantly see cars going through the stop signs. We have a lot of kids in the neighborhood. Thank you for keeping us safe."
  • Cos- "This is so needed as everyday I see drivers not stopping at stop signs aggressive driving and disobeying basic traffic laws."

We can all try to do our part as well too, hopefully the Hudson Valley roads get better/safer and this doesn't become a bigger issue.

SIDE NOTE: To the Toyota 4Runner who was tailgating me yesterday for a long time and honked rudely multiple times when I finally turned...I'm going to chalk that up to you just being Hangry, go eat a bagel and collect yourself.
