Police Investigate Threat made by Hudson Valley Child
Police are investigating after a 12-year-old allegedly made threatening statements regarding a local school.
Monday night, East Fishkill Police began working with the Wappinger Central School district following reports that a 12-year-old Van Wyck Junior High School student made threatening statements.
Detectives conducted interviews and visited the homes of a number of students, the 12-year-old and witnesses, who were involved in the report, police say.
Following an investigation, no student’s safety was ever in danger and there is no reason to keep students from attending the Wappinger Falls school, according to the East Fishkill Police Department.
"The community, including students, play a huge role in school safety. In most cases, perpetrators signal potential threats on social media in advance of the event. All signals should be taken seriously. When it comes to safety and security, students, staff, and members of the community at large have an obligation to report," Van Wyck Junior High School Principal Steven H. Shuchat said on the school's website. "I want to assure you that I will continue to do everything in my power to protect our children."
Police are continuing their investigation.
