Police Warn Hudson Valley After Many Recent Car Thefts
Local police are warning residents in Dutchess County after a number of recent thefts from parked cars.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is investigating a number of recent thefts from parked motor vehicles. The thefts are occurring in residential areas particularly during overnight hours, police say.
Most recently the northeast part of Poughkeespie, including areas near the Dutchess Turnpike, Overocker Road, DeGarmo Road, Taft Avenue, Marple Road and North Grand Avenue, have been impacted.
Authorities warn that there has been a common thread in all of the crimes. The cars were left unlocked with valuables in plain sight.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is reminding everyone to lock your vehicle’s and don’t leave valuables inside your car.
It’s also a good idea to keep a list of serial numbers or identifying marks on your valuables. This way, if police find any stolen property, your valuables have a better chance of being returned.
Anyone who observes suspicious people or vehicles, should get a description and direction of travel and immediately call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-485-3666. Tips may also be left by calling the police department or submitting information at www.townpolice.net.
