A child in the Hudson Valley tragically lost her life during Tuesday's violent storm.

Almost all of the Hudson Valley was impacted by Tuesday's storm, which featured thunderstorms, high winds and tornado warnings in many areas.

There are unconfirmed reports of a tornado touching down in Ulster and Sullivan counties. Hurricane-force winds were reported in the Hudson Valley, according to ABC. 

In the City of Newburgh, like in many surrounding areas, parts of buildings, trees and power lines came crashing down.

It's also in the City of Newburgh where tragedy struck.

A large tree fell on an SUV parked behind a multi-family home in the City of Newburgh, killing an 11-year-old girl.

Update:

City of Newburgh police responded to help the Newburgh Fire Department who were sent to 23 Robinson Avenue for a report of a tree down onto a vehicle around 4:15 p.m.

Fire officials alerted the police that there was an 11-year-old girl was inside the vehicle. She and her mother had arrived home and were unloading the car when the wind caused a large tree to topple onto the vehicle.

The 11-year-old girl was extricated from the vehicle by the fire department and transported to St. Luke’s hospital where she was pronounced dead, police say.

The girl's name or hometown weren't released. However, Newburgh school officials were notified of this incident, according to City of Newburgh police.

The mother suffered minor injuries.

This incident is being investigated by the City of Newburgh Detective Division as well as the Orange County Medical Examiners Officer.
