If you live in the Hudson Valley then I'm sure you're aware of the nasty, dangerous storms we encountered on Tuesday afternoon.

Those storms, which may or may not have included a tornado touching down, left many parts of the Hudson Valley with down trees and power lines.

The high winds and lightning strikes caused thousands of Hudson Valley residents to be left without power. According to Central Hudson, "65,000 customers remain without electric service" as of 7am Wednesday morning, May 16.

In an email to Central Hudson customers, the utility company states that there are "Approximately 185 line workers together with nearly 180 tree personnel" working to clear trees and restore power.

Because it was such a widespread storm, power restoration will take a few days. Central Hudson "anticipates restoration work will last through Thursday and potentially later, with the focus today on clearing roads"

Charles A. Freni, senior vice president of Customer Services and Transmission & Distribution says, "This highly destructive storm caused widespread tree damage in the most severely impacted areas. We urge residents to stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines, and to assume all lines are live. Be aware of lines that may be entangled in fallen trees."

As always if you do see downed power lines call Central Hudson or 911.
