Snow and Brutal Temperatures, Winter Is in Full Swing in The Hudson Valley
Half of the U.S. was hit by Winter Storm Fern between January 25th and 26th, 2026.
In our neck of the woods parts of the Hudson Valley were buried under anywhere between 15 to 20 inches of snow.
Napanoch, in Ulster County took the bragging rights home with 30 inches of snow, the most anywhere in the Northeast and the 2nd most across the nation.

As the snow moved out, the dangerously cold temperatures blew in.
Meteorologist Ben Noll wrote in his report following Winter Storm Fern "The week ahead will be brutal. There are few words." Noll explains the snow "will act like a freezer" that will help overnight temps "plummet."
We've seen the temperature drop to -6 degrees and lower across the region.
Rough Draft Temporarily Closes in Kingston, New York
When temperatures drop, it's always best to make sure your house is equip for the change to avoid disaster.
Unfortunately for one Hudson Valley business, their neighbors did not prepare ahead.
Popular Kingston bookstore Rough Draft announced on social media that they will be temporarily closed. A photo shared on Instagram showed a notice from the City of Kingston that explains the building is unsafe.
Rough Draft explains in the IG caption "When the vacant building above you apparently has no heat on, and temperatures are dipping below zero, pipes may burst. Who could have predicted that?" The Rough Draft team is now waiting for more information, but the hot spot for book lovers now "needs a lot of work done." They add in the post:
When we know more, you’ll know more. Shout-out to our team for handling the emergency with grace, and to the KFD, who were there right away and helping with the cleanup.
When a re-opening date comes our way, we'll make sure to update you.
