For years, a sign has greeted drivers on the corner of Old Firehouse Rd and Plattekill Ardonia Rd just outside the post office in Plattekill, NY... but what does it mean?

While the sign isn't new, the reason behind it is the latest development in a movement that's been happening for decades. While the sign is meant to signal increased security in the area, the focus is towards businesses instead of residential homes.

Details on National "Business Watch" Programs

"Modeled after Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch takes the 'neighbors looking out for neighbors' concept to the commercial level, creating a partnership between business, law enforcement, and other organizations that represent business interests", NNW explains on their website.

Another similarity between business and neighborhood watches is the promotion of communication and collaboration. Official "Business Watch" areas are most successful when multiple businesses in the area participates, which would mean a collaboration with nearby Domenico's Pizzeria and Plattekill Liquors in the case of the Plattekill, NY Post Office (above).
