Sensory Friendly Movie Experiences in the Hudson Valley

Going to the movies can be a lot of fun. You pick the perfect seat, have snacks in hand, and the anticipation builds as the lights dim and the surround sound kicks in and you find yourself immersed in the film.

For some people however, it can be an uncomfortable, even scary experience. For those with sensory sensitivities, having the lights go out can cause anxiety and when the sound comes roaring out of the speakers all around the theater, it can be uncomfortable, even painful. Plus, being able to sit still and be quiet during a film isn't always easy, or possible.

That's about to change. Thanks to Regal Cinemas throughout the country, more families and individuals can go to the movies with the My Way Matinee. The current, family films shown are sensory friendly. The sound is turned down and the lights are dimmed, but not turned completely off. Plus, singing, shouting, crying, dancing are all encouraged.

The films typically start at 10:30 am and this Saturday, June 4, there will be a My Way Matinee at the Regal Cinemas at the Poughkeepsie Galleria when they will be showing the brand new 'Angry Birds' film. Tickets are only $6.50.

Thanks to them, they've just made going to the movies possible, and more fun, for families and individuals who have sensory sensitivities. Job well done Regal Cinemas.
