State Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Vs. Car Accident

A Hudson Valley man was killed Wednesday evening when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle.

New York State Police in Haverstraw investigated the crash that occurred around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Route 202 and Thiells Mt Ivy Road in the Town of Haverstraw.

According to police, a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle operated by 44-year-old Alberto Rivera, of Thiells was traveling westbound on Route 202. A 1999 VW Passat driven by 47-year-old Jonathan Kaufman, of Monsey was eastbound on Route 202 and made a left turn onto Thiells Mt. Ivy Road, right into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Passat ejecting Rivera. Rivera was taken to Nyack Hospital and where he died from his injuries suffered in the accident.

State Police haven’t announced if they have, or plan, to file any charges.

Sadly this marked the second reported driving death in the Hudson Valley in recent days. Police in Ulster County asking for the public’s help following a car accident that killed and Ulster County teen.
