At the request of the nation, some government law makers are coming up with purposed legislation to aid with school safety. When a school shooting is reported, public outrage is not surprising. Regardless of casualties, it is still an issue that need to be resolved in order to provide a safe learning environment for students.

Lately, NY State senators have been drafting several ideas to be submitted. It seems increasing resource officers is what they are looking to accomplish this year. A resource officer is a trained police officer that is armed and is there to deter violence and take action when necessary.

This to me sounds like a reasonable solution but the challenge is funding. Where should funding come from? The NY State Sheriff's Association has called for funding to add resource officers to every primary and secondary school in the state.

NY State Senator, Jim Tedisco is drafting legislation to sell special license plates. The proceeds would go to funding school resource officers throughout New York State.
