In a city that is unfortunately full with a number of recent shooting reports, Newburgh held a gun buyback program.

City of Newburgh Police released a cheerful report of their successful gun buyback program. Officials say the Attorney General's Office and the City of Newburgh Police Department teamed up on Saturday to purchase 53 guns. 16 were handguns.

Individuals received $25 for turning in non-working or antique firearms, $75 for rifles or shotguns, $100 for handguns, and $150 for assault weapons. Payment was made in the form of gift-cards.

Prior to the event people were told the guns must be unloaded and placed in a bag or box. With the weapon being transported to the City of Newburgh Recreation Center in the trunk of a vehicle.
