Information for the 20 Bridges Swim Around Manhattan
The official event to circumnavigate Manhattan is called the 20 Bridges Swim, named for the number of spans athletes pass underneath during their journey. The 28.5-mile swim is held on multiple dates, including an upcoming window between August 9th and August 17th.

Thomson's goal to swim around Manhattan comes two years after another impressive aquatic feat was achieved by Lewis Pugh, who swam the entire length of the Hudson River to highlight the importance of environmental conservation.
