Police are trying to figure out how a hammer smashed through a car's windshield on I-87 and injured a young girl.
On Sunday, October 10, 2021, at approximately 2:19 a.m., New York State Police responded to a report of an incident with injuries on the New York State Thruway southbound.
The incident happened just south of Exit 14A, in the town of Ramapo.
A preliminary investigation determined that a hammer went through the windshield of a vehicle, striking the front seat passenger.

The victim was later identified by police as a 14-year-old girl.
The teen was transported to Westchester County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, officials say. Police did not release the teen's name or hometown.
Police are trying to determine if someone threw the hammer. More information isn't known at this time.
"The incident remains under investigation. State Police are asking anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact State Police Tarrytown at 800-842-2233," police say.
