As travelers are aware, Thanksgiving is the most popular travel holiday. Already local airports are seeing delays and asking travelers to arrive much earlier than normal.

While airports are a popular mode of transportation during the holiday, obviously others are driving here and there and making their Thanksgiving visits. I know that I'll be traveling upwards toward Connecticut and down towards Westchester.

Any way you look at it, people will be out and about. That's why the New York State Police will be cracking down this week on drinking and driving.

The crackdown will run Wednesday Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 27. Troopers will be zoning in on speed enforcement, impaired driving, underage drinking and distracted driving as well as having sobriety checkpoints and an underage drinking initiative.

They will also be running "Operation Hang Up" which concentrates on distracted drivers by using Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement vehicles to locate drivers talking or texting on hand held cell phones. Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement vehicles are unmarked but have emergency lighting when activated.

Last Thanksgiving the New York State Troopers arrested 218 drivers for DWI, issued 5,910 speeding tickets and 204 tickets for the move over law. There were also 19 deaths statewide by motor vehicle crashes during Thanksgiving 2015
