A New Beginning Amid Business Closures

In a time when many restaurants are shuttering their doors, Mill House Brewing Company is bucking the trend with exciting news. Co-owners Dan Crocco and Jamie Bishop are set to launch a new satellite location called The Ridge by Mill House in Clintondale, aiming for a grand opening this winter. “We are grateful to our community for supporting us,” they expressed in their announcement, emphasizing the importance of local patronage during these challenging times.

Honoring a Legacy

The Ridge will take over the beloved Gunk Haus, which operated for 14 years before its owners, Dirk Schalle and Elizabeth Steckel, decided to retire. Crocco and Bishop are committed to honoring the restaurant's history while infusing their own creative flair. Bishop reminisces about his childhood visits to the area, saying, “It was a lively spot,” and they both share a vision to maintain that community spirit.

A Refreshing Approach to Dining

While The Ridge won’t serve German cuisine, it will reflect Mill House’s signature American style with a playful twist. Expect home-smoked meats, dry-aged steaks, and a raw bar, all featuring local ingredients sourced from farms within five miles. Crocco promises, “Our only rule is that there are no rules. It just has to be delicious,” creating a menu that celebrates creativity and flavor.

Embracing Community and Craft

In addition to a diverse menu, Bishop plans to introduce a new brew called Haus Hefeweizen, paying homage to the Gunk Haus legacy. With renovations underway, the new space will highlight its beautiful views of the Shawangunk Ridge, creating a cozy atmosphere for diners year-round. The restaurant's large deck, added by previous owners, will allow guests to enjoy the stunning scenery while dining outdoors.

As The Ridge prepares to open, Crocco and Bishop remain focused on quality and detail, ensuring a delightful experience for their guests. They are excited to contribute to the local dining scene and build on the community’s rich culinary tradition. Stay tuned for updates as they approach their target launch date!

Spirit Halloween Relaunches Spirit Christmas with 3 New York Locations

Spirit Christmas is a seasonal retail store operated by Spencer Spirit Holdings. A sister brand to Spirit Halloween, the store offers various decorations and costumes for the Christmas season, along with visits from Santa Claus. If you're expecting it to be a spooky kind of Christmas store, don't. It will be a tried and true Christmas store.

At some point, the 1990’s incarnation of the store was discontinued. Spencer Gifts tested the concept themselves after acquiring the Spirit Halloween brand in 1999, operating their own Spirit Christmas stores in 2005 and 2006. In 2024, the store was revived once more, with 10 locations set to open.
