A Brutal Discovery in Newburgh

On June 9, 2004, tragedy struck the quiet town of Newburgh, New York. Yvonne Torch, a 32-year-old hairstylist, was found brutally murdered inside her salon on Route 9W, in the Balmville area of the Town of Newburgh. Torch had just finished styling one client when her next appointment arrived to find her lifeless body. The crime scene was chilling, and investigators immediately began working to piece together what happened.

A Crime That Shook the Community

Torch’s murder sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community. Described as a friendly, hard-working woman, Yvonne was beloved by her clients and friends. Her death raised many questions: Who could have wanted to harm her? Was it a random act of violence, or did she know her attacker? Despite the brutality of the crime, there were no obvious signs of a struggle or robbery, leading police to believe this could have been a personal attack.

Investigating Across States and Using New Technology

State Police followed numerous leads, some as far as Florida, and sifted through hundreds of tips from the local community. Advances in DNA technology offered hope, but despite this, no concrete leads have emerged. The lack of physical evidence or witnesses has made the investigation difficult, and the case has grown cold over the years.

The Mystery Remains Unsolved

As of now, the killer remains unknown, and Yvonne Torch’s family and friends are still searching for answers. Anyone with information about her death is urged to come forward. State Police continue to investigate, hopeful that one day, justice will be served for Yvonne Torch.
