Hudson Valley residents will have a unique opportunity this week to hitch a ride on a tornado over the rainbow and out of Kansas into a colorful fantasy world, as The Wizard of Oz makes its way to the big screen. Story Street Beacon presents the beloved family classic, based on the L. Frank Baum novel, in the recently renovated Beacon Theater, located at 445 Main St in Beacon.

The Wizard of Oz (in case you're an alien and/or have lived under a rock your whole life) stars Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, a Kansan farm girl who is transported to the magical land of Oz. She (and her little dog, too!) must befriend a group of munchkins and a merry band of misfits as she sets foot on the yellow brick road to the Emerald City is search of a way back home. According to the Library of Congress, it has been seen by more people than any other movie.

If you would rather take the red pill, Story Screen Beacon will also have screenings of The Matrix this week. Keanu Reeves has a couple of threequels coming up (John Wick: Parabellum and Bill and Ted 3), so it might be nice to see him in a franchise starter for a change. Screenings for both films (as well as the South Korean film Burning) start Wednesday, March 27 and continue through the weekend. For show times and ticket info, visit storyscreenbeacon.com.
