If you've been on the Walkway Over the Hudson and sat on this bench, you've sat on history.

The Walkway Over The Hudson opened in 2009. Since then it's attracted visitors from all over the world. What started out as an old eyesore is now one of the most spectacular sights in the Hudson Valley.

If you've ever made your way to the center of the Walkway you may have noticed those wooden and concrete benches that give walkers a spot to sit and take in the view. These benches have a pretty cool history.

Artist Douglas Thayer created the benches in 2011 from reclaimed Ipe wood. Also known as "Brazillian Walnut," the wood is extremely dense and durable. The wood's strength is probably why it was chosen for it's original purpose, as a part of the boardwalk at Coney Island.

That's right, the wood used on these beautiful benches are actually original planks from the famed boardwalk in Brooklyn. Pretty cool, right?

And if you want a part of that history in your own home, Thayer does create benches using the same reclaimed wood for use indoors and outdoors. You can find out more details about the benches and the other pieces of furniture he makes on his website.
