There’s definitely a sad and almost ominous vibe to the new Toy Story movie, like this is the last time we’re going to see Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Admittedly, there’s been weirdly dark notes in all the Toy Story movies; the third film ended with all our beloved toy pals almost getting incinerated in a fiery garbage pile. That’s pretty grim! So we’ve been down this road before.

Still, all the posters so far have played up this notion that the Toy Story characters are saying goodbye. And that feeling is even harder to shake after seeing how Tom Hanks and Tim Allen — the voices of Woody and Buzz, respectively — marked the occasion of their final recording sessions for the film. The fact that they made a big deal out of the end of making the film at all makes me nervous! Like they’ll be back again .... right?

Here was Hanks’ Instagram photo, taken during his recording of his very last line as Woody for Toy Story 4.

And Tim Allen posted his own reaction to Twitter, where he talks about how he “got emotional” saying goodbye to everyone’s favorite delusional Space Ranger:

I’m telling you this right now: I am not emotionally prepared for Toy Story 4. I really don’t need to break down in a movie theater in front of my child. I just don’t need it. Toy Story 4 opens in theaters on June 21, 2019.
