I've been a video game fanatic since the Atari 2600 was hooked up to my families console television in the 1980s. Games were simple and most of them required to use of your imagination. I always thought that when I grew up, I'd leave this childish activity behind me. I was wrong. As I grew, computer technology grew with it and the quality control of the gaming industry boomed once again. So as an adult, I don't feel guilty for losing myself in a game because they just keep getting better. Here is my list of the games I'm most excited for in 2018.

    Spider-Man

Developed by Insomniac Games this will be the first title by them I actually want to play. Spider-Man made the list after watching some beta game play footage online. It's the latest Spider-Man title being released on PS4 sometime this year. I've often ignored super hero games but I regret not playing the most recent Batman title as I've heard from numerous sources how addictive that game was.

This Spider-Man game takes place in an open world modern day setting of New York City. That's what caught my attention. I don't have high hopes for this one but I'm definitely going to give it a play through. The story line is not tied to The Marvel Cinematic Universe so it'll be a fresh look on the character and I'm excited to see how it feels to swing from building to building in lower Manhattan.

    God Of War

Developed by Santa Monica Studio, this is the eighth game in the franchise. It's scheduled for release in early 2018 and finally caught my attention. As a third-person action-adventure game, it looks to potentially be my new favorite franchise. I never played any of the previous God of War games and this title is billed as a re-boot to the franchise as a whole.

The game play style was rebuilt from the ground up. The third-person fixed camera position is being replaced with an over the shoulder perspective which I've grown quite used to. They've also removed the multiplayer which I don't mind. Lonely open world games are my thing. I think this title has a good chance at converting me into a God of War fan.

    Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is the new title developed by Ubisoft Montreal.  This action-adventure first-person shooter follows the same game style as it's predecessors  It's actually the eleventh installment of the franchise. My first experience with Far Cry was Far Cry Primal. Game play took some getting used to but the open-world was worth a look. I instantly loved it and completed 100% of the game including all PS4 trophies. I went back and bought Far Cry 4 and was just as impressed.

What makes Far Cry 5 stand out to me is that it takes place on American soil. It also allows you to create your own character which always made games feel more real. It gives me the chance to put myself in the game and that's when hours get lost.

They've also added companion fighters in which you can recruit to your cause in the form of NPCs. So we have an open-world first-person shooter that puts me into the game and I can build my own army? Sign me up!

It's scheduled to be released on March 27th 2018.

    Kingdom Come: Deliverance

This is a new title developed by Warhorse Studios. I accidentally came across some footage of the beta a few months ago and I was floored! If you can't tell already, I'm an open-world junkie. But Kingdom Come: Deliverance is looking to stand apart from the rest.

It's very similar to an Elder Scrolls title except the developers took a more realistic approach. It takes place in a real historical setting. You start off in Bohemia in the year 1403, which is now modern day Czech Republic.

The developers prided themselves on historical accuracy with the simulation of real armor and weapons. The fighting mechanics are not just hack and slash but require a more in-depth approach forcing you to strategize each foe. It will be a challenge but if patience perseveres this game could occupy up to three months of my gaming time. Which is what I'm hoping for.

We will see just how amazing this title is after it's release on February 13th 2018.

    Red Dead Redemption 2

IT'S FINALLY HERE! There has never been a game that I patiently waited over half a decade for. Red Dead Redemption 2 was developed by trusted developers Rockstar Games. They brought us the post millennial Grand Theft Auto Series. I'm convinced that Rockstar Games is the reason I still play console games. I've never purchased a title from them that has let me down.

RDR2 is a prequel to the Red Dead game released in 2010. When I realized it was grand theft auto in the wild west, I was hooked! I played that game straight through to 100% completion. I enjoyed it so much, that I did it THREE TIMES.

Rockstar Games didn't want to disappoint their audience so the release date was pushed back time and time again. While that is a bit frustrating it only grew my anticipation for the latest release in the series.

Pre-ordering this game is a must for me and I'll most likely buy a season pass for whatever DLC they offer. I normally don't like paying for add-ons but I don't want to miss experiencing everything this game has to offer.

It's expected to be released in early spring of 2018.
