Two SUNY New Paltz Students Arrested After Mother Found Murdered
Police suspect a SUNY New Paltz student slashed his mother's throat and, with the help of his girlfriend, dumped the body.
The gruesome story is sending shockwaves through the Hudson Valley. According to the Daily News, police believe that Jared Eng, a 22-year-old SUNY New Paltz Student, slashed his mother's throat and then dumped her body in a New Jersey home.
Police arrested Eng yesterday, along with his girlfriend, a 21-year-old college student named Caitlyn O’Rourke who also attends New Paltz. Jennifer Lopez, an 18-year-old friend, was also arrested by authorities.
Investigators found Paula Chin stuffed in a garbage bag after the 65-year-old woman's throat was slit. No one has officially been charged with murder, but all three suspects were arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence and concealing a human corpse.
While being led out of the courthouse, Eng declared his innocence, saying, "No I didn’t. I love her very much. She gave me everything." The SUNY student was remanded without bail. His girlfriend was held on $50,000 bail and the third teenager was given bail of $100,000.
