Unique & Popular Highland Business Set to Expand To New Paltz
In late 2023, regulars to this very popular New Paltz establishment were saddened to hear the news of its immediate closure. Shatzi's, which still operates out of a location in Poughkeepsie, recently shuttered their New Paltz location which used to be another great option for a quick bite and drink in the village.
Cited by Buzzfeed as having one of the 'world's greatest burgers,' since closing the New Paltz Shatzi's location back on December 31, 2023, the building has remained vacant. Word has spread to many about what will soon open in the former Shatzi's spot on Main Street, and it seems like the pretty perfect fit for New Paltz.
Coffee & Ales Comes to New Paltz
Cited as the 'best American food in Highland' this unique combination cafe, beer bar, coffee shop and bottle shop in the hamlet of Highland is about to extend their offerings down the road into another local community - the village of New Paltz.
Underground Coffee & Ales will soon expand to include two Ulster County locations, adding 36 Main Street, New Paltz, as their second home.
Word on the street is that the New Paltz Underground Coffee & Ales location hopes to be open by the end of the month (May), however we haven't been able to confirm that 100% yet. What we can confirm, is that many locals, especially the ones in the New Paltz Community Facebook page, have shared their excitement in welcoming this new establishment to town.

Underground Coffee & Ales History
Though Underground Coffee & Ales has been serving up good eats and a variety of drinks to Highland for quite some time, they actually took a few months off back in the summer of 2023.
Reopening in early October after regrouping, relaxing and restaffing, Underground Coffee & Ales picked up right where they left off, to rave reviews from customers old and new, all similarly thankful for their return.
