It has been an on-again off-again situation between United Airlines and JFK airport in New York, but the news was shared this week that the airline will return to the NYC airport within the next few years following a 'deal' with JetBlue.

Many frequent-flyers are loyal to their favorite airlines, and therefore tend to plan their travel according to the best options for that specific airline. Beginning in 2027, those who prefer to fly United will have another option in and out of New York.

Blue Sky Announcement Links JetBlue and United

In a collaboration titled 'Blue Sky' - JetBlue and United will link loyalty programs with a focus on 'innovation and customer experience.' This newly announced partnership will allow for more flight options and new opportunities to use earned miles and points across the two major airlines.

While the full rollout will take place over the next few years, customers will begin to find some of the new options beginning in fall 2025, like United's MileagePlus customers earning and using miles on many JetBlue flights, access to loyalty program benefits like priority boarding, extra legroom, standby/switch options across the different airlines, and even booking flights on one another's website or app - a seamless booking experience across the two airline's networks.

A major component of this new partnership is of course JetBlue allowing United to utilize some of their allotted slots at JFK airport.
