If my old stomping ground of Wallingford, CT, can pull this off, I know Beacon can.

Wallingford just dropped the coolest speakeasy ever, disguised as a VHS rental shop, and I can’t help but wonder why we haven’t swiped this idea yet.

It’s like when Deep Impact  "borrowed" the idea from Armageddon

Or maybe it was the other way around. I can never remember.

Either way, I had both on VHS, and I’ll defend them to this day.

Picture it: a little storefront on Main Street, shelves stacked with Jurassic Park and Clueless, complete with the lingering smell of old plastic and faded Blockbuster stickers. Just when you think it’s a quirky pop-up, BAM—a hidden door swings open, and you’re in a dim-lit speakeasy straight out of your ‘90s daydreams.

You could sip on cocktails like “Be Kind, Rewine” while debating whether The Sandlot or The Mighty Ducks was the ultimate coming-of-age flick.

(Spoiler: It’s The Sandlot . Sorry, Emilio.)

Beacon’s already got the NYC transplants, the tourists, and the “I knew Beacon before it was cool” regulars. A spot like this would be an instant hit. We have no shortage of bars, but where’s the place that lets you relive your glory days of renting *Terminator 2* for the 50th time and arguing with your friends over the tracking button?

This concept isn’t just nostalgia—it’s an experience. And Beacon’s *the* place for something like this to thrive.

So come on, Beacon, take a cue from Wallingford and make this happen. If they can pull it off, I know we can, too. Let’s steal this idea and make it the best VHS-themed speakeasy ever.

And hey, if Beacon doesn’t step up, at least take a trip to Wallingford and see the real thing for yourself. The Gilded Cutain

Trust me, it’s worth the rewind.

Are These the Best, Most Fun "Retro" Furniture Stores in Upstate New York? We Think So!

Remember when couches were purple, dinette sets were bright red, and living room lampshades came in every color of the rainbow? If you do, your are a Baby Boomer and we have found your old furniture at these great Upstate New York retro stores!

And if you lived through those times, you have to remember when everybody thought, "Thank God!" when those styles went, well, out of style! So, how could they ever come back to being one the hottest collectible styles of furniture today? The answer is simple.
We all got old.

We yearn for the good old days, which seemed simpler and better (OK, put your rose colored glasses down). The furniture, which dawned at the infancy of the Space Age, was zany in design, dazzling in color, and made your home look modern and fun. So why not bring it all back. Can you believe what happened to vinyl records?

These stores are among the best in Upstate New York that sell the Mid-Century Modern furniture that our parents' had. We want them now. And these stores are stocked to the walls with anything you need to enter the "way back machine" and relive the days of your youth with original furniture and accessories from the 1940s-1980s.
