Drummer Vinnie Paul has passed away at the age of 54 years old. Known for his work in Pantera, Damageplan and most recently Hellyeah, Paul was a legend in his own time. According to Loudwire, he started Pantera with his brother Darrell and their father Jerry produced and engineered their albums.

Singer Phil Anselmo came on board in the late 80s and the band released their breakthrough album 'Cowboys From Hell' in 1990. Perhaps their best-known track 'Walk' appeared on their 1993 release Vulgar Display of Power.

Cause of death has not been released at this time and his family has asked fans to respect their privacy.

He was predeceased by his brother Dimebag Darrell Abbott who was shot and killed on stage at a Damageplan concert in 2004.

Hellyeah performed locally at The Chance on several occasions. Simon had a chance to catch up with Paul before the band's last show there in 2015.
