A $28,500,000 mansion for sale in the lower Hudson Valley is taking some major hits on social media.

Is the property "an extraordinary residence for those who seek exceptional style" as the real estate listing states, or a "hideous psych ward"? You be the judge.

Dubbed "Niederhurst", the 8,000 square-foot mansion sits on a beautiful 13-acre property overlooking the Hudson River. The historic home was originally constructed in the 1860s and 1870s, but its most recent owner has put their own spin on the interior design. Not everyone agrees with their taste.

Internet Trolls Attack Hudson Valley, NY Mansion

At first, it could seem surprising that there is so much negativity surrounding the impressive home. The kitchen (above), bedrooms, and living room (below) have all been tastefully updated with an effective mix of classic and modern touches. The vitriol, it turns out, is mostly focused on one specific room.

Reaction to the Niederhurst Mansion's Interior

The general public seemed nonplussed over the non-purist approach to the remodel. "I’m…shocked. They took an absolutely beautifully crafted and structured piece of history and Beetlejuiced it", lamented one commenter on Facebook. "Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should", added another. The area under so much fire was none other than the dining room (below)

While the dining room is certainly taste-specific (and the black-and-white motif arguably does feel at least slightly inspired by Beetlejuice), other real estate voyeurs pointed out some other shortcomings.

The Internet Grumbles About Niederhurst Mansion

"29 [million ]& the washer & dryer are in the damn kitchen? The inside has lost all its character & charm", said a less-than-happy comment. "Whoever decorated this house should have the police called on them", came the most hyperbolic opinion. Take a full tour below to judge the unique property for yourself.
