A recent West Point graduate was among 10 women selected as "Women of the Year."

Glamour Magazine announced recent West Point graduate former First Captain and Rhodes Scholar 2nd Lt. Simone Askew as one of the 2018 College Women of the Year.

Each year, for the past 61 years, Glamour recognizes 10 outstanding students, from scientists to athletes, activist and businesswomen.

According to West Point officials, Glamour looks for students with strong leadership skills, who excel in extracurricular activities or athletics and give back to their community or campus in some way.

In 2017, Askew became the first African-American woman to lead the West Point cadets. She was named First Captain of the U.S. Military Academy’s Corps of Cadets for the 2017-2018 academic year, achieving the highest position in the cadet chain of command.
