The 2026 Winter Olympics Kicks Off in Milan, Italy

We're gearing up for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

The "Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026" was established back in December of 2019 to "organize, promote, and publicize sporting and culture events relation to the Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games" according to their website.

The Winter Olympics include events like Hockey, Ski Jumping, Luge, Snowboarding and so much more.

One of the more popular events during every Winter Olympics as of late is curling.

What Is Curling?

The Olympic website explains that Curling was first introduced as an Olympic sport for men back in the 1924 Games in Chamonix in France.

Later, Curling became a demonstration event in Lake Placid in 1932, Calgary in 1988 and Albertville in 1992. Then it made its return and an event at the Nagano Olympic Winter Games in 1998 for both men and women.

A basic curling match has 10 rounds, also known as ends, and teams will have 8 stones each. Scores are "calculated when all 16 stones have been thrown." The official Olympic website breaks down the rules even further adding:

A team can have one or more stones close to the centre of the ‘house,’ thus scoring one or more points for each end. The team with the most points at the conclusion of the final end wins. In the event of a tie, an extra end is played to determine the winner.

Make sense?

Where Can You Learn to Curl in The Hudson Valley?

If you've watched enough curling and are interested in giving it a shot yourself, head out to Ardsley.

The Ardsley Curling Club has been around since 1932 and they host open house sessions and Learning to Curl Classes for the public.

While that's cool enough by itself, The Ardsley Curling Club has one of their own representing the Hudson Valley in the 2026 Olympics.

Danny Casper will represent Team USA as the Skip of Team USA in Men's Curling. Casper is described as an "elite curler" and is currently ranked 8th in the world.

The Ardsley Curling Club write

All his hard work culminated in winning the US Olympic Trials and then competing against 7 other countries in the Olympic Qualifier Event all vying for the final two spots in the Olympics.
