Apparently, there are still a lot of drunk drivers on the road.

State police from Troops F and K in the Hudson Valley each arrested 22 people between Friday, February 8 and Sunday, February 10. The crackdown was an effort to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road, but will it really work?

One of the people arrested was John Brudderman of Monticello. The 50-year-old was found slumped behind the wheel of his car with the motor running after a nearby resident called police to report an unknown car in their driveway. Police say they determined the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

In Dutchess County, one of the drivers arrested was also charged with violating Leandra's Law. Francisco Fernandez Argueta was stopped in the town of Southeast for a traffic law violation when officers say they determined he was impaired. The 26-year-old had a child in the car. He was arrested and charged with a Class E Felony, which has a penalty of up to four years in prison.

It's crazy to think that 44 people were accused of driving drunk in our area this weekend, and these were just the ones that were caught by police. Thanks to the crackdown, we're reminded just how much of an epidemic drunk driving still is.  If you've been drinking, call an Uber or taxi. It's not worth putting your life, or the lives of others at risk.
