Why Are CVS Receipts So Freaking Long?

I like saving money as much as the next person but this just seems a little excessive.

I have not been to a CVS store in a few years. I cannot be certain but they may have destroyed half the rain forest since then.

There was an emergency situation and I needed to run to the store for a little bit of laundry detergent. The closest store was a CVS. I literally purchased one item. It didn't warrant a receipt that was two feet long. It was a like a scroll. What are are supposed to do with all of this?
