We've all heard the arguments over which is the correct way to unroll toilet paper....over or under? Well it turns out a 124 year-old patent has finally given us the answers we've been looking for....drum roll please....OVER!

According to the Huffington Post this 1891 patent (seen above) by New York businessman Seth Wheeler displays that  “under” position as the intended position for his new invention. Wheeler was the owner of Albany Perforated Wrapping Paper Company...the business who originally patented the idea for perforated "wrapping" paper..a.k.a toilet paper!

"My invention ... consists in a roll of wrapping paper with perforations on the line of the division between one sheet and the next, so as to be easily torn apart, such roll of wrapping paper forming a new article of manufacture,"

So the debate is over and how exciting that it was a New York company that solved two problems. One need a leaf to clean and two that the roll does in fact go over!
