Authorities are investigating a case in which a man was found dead in an abandoned Hudson Valley mansion. The Saugerties Times reports the the 58-year-old man was found in the basement of the Dragon Inn. The Saugerties mansion was built in the 1800s and was most recently a Chinese food restaurant. The mansion was originally home to William Sheffield, local businessman and was known as Clovelea.

The mansion has been empty since a fire badly damaged the building in 1993. Owner Jason Moskowitz recently purchased the building and has filed the title with local officials. He was recently in trouble for beginning work without the proper permits. Because of the age of the building, all work must be approved by the local Historic Review Board.

Foul play is not considered a factor in the case and the identity of the deceased man is being withheld until family can be notified.
