Empire of the Sun have a surprise hit single on their hands, only 9 years after it was written. But how does that happen? It would appear in this case, timing and placement were key factors. When the song was released to the public in August of 2008 it was a modest hit in the US but was a smash it in Australia. The band began to gain fans worldwide and became a force on the concert circuit. The played Mysteryland at Bethel Woods in 2015.

Just recently, 'Walking On A Dream' was the song featured in a major Honda ad campaign. The song instantly started selling singles on the digital market and blowing up the requests lines too.

The band is actually composed of duo Nick Littlemore (producer) and Luke Steele (singer/songwriter). Steele fronts the live band while Littlemore is a major presence in the studio. As a producer, he's worked with Elton John, Ellie Goulding and Robbie Williams.

In the interview below, check out Nick's perspective on psychedelic Christmas, new music and how a song makes it big after eight years.
