This week's Beer of the Week from Half Time in Poughkeepsie is brewed using fresh watermelons.  That's right, watermelons.

When I was on vacation, I was lucky enough to visit several of my favorite breweries on the West Coast, one of them being 21st Amendment. In addition to having a great location (right next to the San Francisco Giants' stadium, AT&T Park), the beer there is top notch. And every table and barstool had Hell or High Watermelon served with a big ol' slab of watermelon sticking out of the glass.

Now that I've had it on tap at the brewery and out of a growler at Half Time, I have to be honest: it's just as good here in the Hudson Valley as it is at its birthplace.

It's a traditional American wheat beer that's given a special second fermentation using watermelon. The result is a crisp, clean finish with a surprising sweetness and aroma of watermelon.

This unique brew is only available during Summer months from the 21st Amendment Brewery in San Francisco.  Fill up your WRRV growler for half price all this week at Half Time on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie!
