What is Type 2 Diabetes? Stats and Facts

According to the CDC about 1 in 10 Americans have diabetes, around 38 million people, and "approximately 90-95% of them have type 2 diabetes." Type 2 Diabetes is when your cells don't respond normally to insulin and when that happens your pancreas makes more insulin trying to get the cells to respond.

The CDC explains "Eventually your pancreas can’t keep up, and your blood sugar rises, setting the stage for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes."

In most cases, Type 2 Diabetes is found in adults 45 and older, however, the CDC is reporting that more and more cases are being found in children, teens, and young adults.
