Hollywood Continues Scraping Bottom of Barrel, Plans PEZ Movie

Remakes, reboots, rewrites, sequels, prequels--it's become abundantly clear in recent years that Hollywood would much, much rather greenlight a project with an established franchise or presence in popular culture than try to create something new.

And based on the box office returns of this summer (Fast 7, Jurassic World, Pitch Perfect 2, Mad Max, Mission: Impossible), can you really blame them?

Okay, maybe you can blame them on this one.

According to Entertainment Weekly, "Envision Media Arts announced the development of an animated movie based on Pez Candy dispensers, written by Cameron Fay."

No word yet about the plot, nor whether it will involve licensed character PEZ dispensers, but at least we've got The Lego Movie to make us optimistic that this thing might not be the worst thing ever. Maybe. It's possible.

Of course, this will not be the PEZ dispenser's first foray into popular culture...
