Rising Artist From Newburgh, NY Releases First Song of the New Year

One of my favorite parts of this job is getting to highlight local musicians and see them shine. This musician, for instance, went to the same college as me. He's a couple years younger, and I knew pretty soon after he got to St. Rose that he was one to watch. I think I saw him first perform at one of the first open mic's on campus that year. Since then, it's been awesome to follow this guy's career and see where he is going!

On January 5th, 2024, Hudson Valley based singer-songwriter John Newhall is set to release a new single titled “Something With You”. The song is a piano-driven, hard hitting ballad that will leave listeners with a unique experience. The song’s constant build of tension is encapsulating and is finally paid off by the explosion of a full band sound in its end.

Not even in his mid-20s, John Newhall has already had a successful music career. Growing up in New York, he was fortunate enough to work with big-time artists such as Foreigner and Kidz Bop, learn proficiency in multiple instruments and consistently play in his local scene. Now ready for the next step, John has doubled down on his guitar-centric, singer-songwriter style and is ready to make a splash in the genre.

“Something With You” is just another in a slew of recent singles that has burst the young artist on to the scene. With over 11k monthly listers across all platforms, Newhall is gaining traction both locally and and otherwise, thanks to his growing social media presence. He hopes to continue his growth.

"Something With You" is Newhall's first single of 2024, but is the third single release in the last three months. On November 3rd, 2023, he released "Six Eight" and on December 8th, 2023, he released "40 Years Or 15 Minutes."

Newhall isn't just great when it comes to writing and recording his own music; he also has a great talent for making classic songs his own. Newhall has been putting out a slew of covers a part of his "I Got 'dem Covers" series on YouTube. He's covered great artists such as The Mamas & The Papas, Olivia Newton-John, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder and more.
