It was revealed this week that a $250 million Lego theme park may be coming to our area.  LoHud  is reporting that there is a proposal endorsed by the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council to use the Letchworth Village property owned by the Town of Haverstraw. The Legoland theme park could also include a water park and hotel.  It's estimated that the park would bring in over 2 million visitors a year to Rockland county.  There are already two other U.S. Legoland theme parks in California and Florida.

UPDATE: On December 12, 2014 The Patch reported that developers have received a $3.1 million grant to begin phase one of the operation.

Other proposed projects that have been endorsed by the council include a Brooklyn Brewery production facility in Rockland and a Sing Sing Prison museum. The Legoland developer is competing against these and 8 other local proposals for $750 Million in state grant money.  Recipients of the stimulus money will be announced this Fall.

Would you like to see a Legoland theme park here in the Hudson Valley?   If not, what other business do you think would be a better fit?
